I've traveled into the wrong season two winters in a row, and I think my body is a little confused. Last year, it was summer in Peru around this time, and this year it was the desert of Nevada. I don't mind, though. It's good to get a break from all the snow.
We spent New Years around a campfire with seven other people, five dogs, and a couple of bottles of champagne. We set off some sparklers and went to bed promptly at 12:05am. It was perfect.
Then we went climbing the next day. Here are some pictures (taken by Abby)...
Every time I climb with Nate, I'm reminded that he is a badass. I love these two pictures of him.
And now, since it's early January, here's the obligatory short recap of my year:
In January, we got Doc. Best decision we've ever made. Then in March Doc and I took a road trip home to visit my parents for Spring Break. We had a bunch of visitors at the beginning of the year, which was so nice. In May I finished up my first semester of prereqs for PA school and got the last of my PA school application materials together. We celebrated Nate's 26th bday. In June and July we took a ton of mini trips to Sedona to go cliff jumping and camping. We also smoked a bunch of meat in the meat smoker Nate made. I finished up summer school at the end of July and had a couple of weeks off before the Fall semester. Also in July we took a really fun trip to Huntington beach to visit our friend, Sam. Amazing burritos and fish tacos were eaten, waves were body surfed, and so much fun was had. In August we did a road trip to CO, stayed there for a week, and then flew to NY and drove to MA to hang in Cape Cod for a week. Amazing. Then we got caught in Hurricane Irene and I missed my first day of classes. In September I drove down to Phoenix for my PA school interview. A week later, I found out I had been accepted! Then in October Nate and I celebrated our three year anniversary. I did a bunch of Search and Rescue training this month. Then in November I turned 26, and we went home to CO again, this time for Thanksgiving. This month also marked one year of living in Flagstaff. In December I finished up all of my prereqs (yay!) and we went home to New York (we have a few different homes, I guess) to spend Christmas with Nate's family. It was beyond wonderful.
This has been a year of new friendships, new traditions and new beginnings. It's also been a year of lots of love and lots of fun. It's definitely been one of the most challenging and best years of my life. Here's to another year of even harder challenges and bigger rewards, hopefully some good traveling, and lots more love and happiness.
