Colander in the rough

Here's a medium-sized bowl that will become a colander if I can manage to trim and drill it without destroying it. At least this can serve as documentation that it existed in case it doesn't make it to the next realm of potterydom.

That's kind of how all pottery is. It's a pretty ephemeral practice, for the non-experts like me. Sometimes when I think I've done everything right, I'll still get an s crack or an ugly lopsided rim. I'm currently mourning the loss of a big fruit bowl I made for a friend that got an impressive crack around the foot. The bright side is, at least now I can learn how to reconstitute bone-dry clay (something that doesn't seem physically possible, but has evidently been done).

On a personal note, I start my emergency medicine rotation next week and I am just parrrraaaying that I get some weekdays off. I just can't live without my solo (sola?) Tuesday mornings.
